Bible Verses for Moms: 20 Reminders for the Overwhelmed Days
It’s easy for me to get overwhelmed and some days it doesn’t take much. I could list out all of the reasons why my brain tell me that’s justified: chronic illness, medical bills, complex medical care for my daughter, and the fact that my floors didn’t feel perfectly clean when I walked through the house this morning. I really don’t like that feeling! ha!
I don’t think being overwhelmed is the problem. I think its the anxiety that comes with it that doesn’t really serve me and that’s how I really want to grow in my character.
It’s not just about what I say or how I act when I’m overwhelmed. It’s also about what is lingering in my mind: worry, decision paralysis, etc.
When I’m overwhelmed, I typically don’t have time — or don’t make time, however you want to say it is fine — to sit down right then and read scripture. It’s especially true if my daughter is having a seizure or there’s something that requires my full attention. I’m not going to walk away from a situation that needs me to sit down and read scripture.
But I love it when I’m in these chaotic situations and scripture comes to my mind. I want to memorize more scripture so that this happens more and more. So here are some verses that have been encouraging my heart lately and I hope they are encouraging to you too.
When you are tired and have nothing left
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." (Matthew 11:28)
"He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak." (Isaiah 40:29)
"My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." (2 Corinthians 12:9)
"The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves." (Zephaniah 3:17)
There are days where my body is spent and there’s truly nothing left in the tank. Tomorrow is a new day and I will not be left to my own weakness to figure this out.
When you are worried about your kids
"She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come." (Proverbs 31:25)
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer, present your requests to God." (Philippians 4:6)
"Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you." (1 Peter 5:7)
"Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it." (Proverbs 22:6)
When you feel like you are failing
"His mercies are new every morning; great is your faithfulness." (Lamentations 3:23)
"There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus." (Romans 8:1)
"He will not let your foot slip; he who watches over you will not slumber." (Psalm 121:3)
"Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest." (Galatians 6:9)
When you need peace in the chaos
"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. Do not let your hearts be troubled." (John 14:27)
"You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you." (Isaiah 26:3)
"Be still, and know that I am God." (Psalm 46:10)
"The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still." (Exodus 14:14)
Short prayers for moms to pray on the run
You do not need fancy words.
Lord, I have nothing left.
Help me do this.
Sustain me.
I hope you remember that you are loved and seen no matter how overwhelmed you feel. The Lord knows the number of hairs on your head (Matthew 10:30) and delights over you. Because of Him, you’re never alone.
